NCT ID NCT06724965

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This pilot study will test a program that combines a trauma-focused therapy (STAIR) with peer-led HIV prevention (PrEP) support for transgender and nonbinary people who have experienced violence. The goal is to see if this combined approach is acceptable, feasible, and helps improve mental health and PrEP use. The study will involve 90 participants in Los Angeles.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Skills Training in Affect and Interpersonal Regulation (STAIR) therapy plus peer-led PrEP navigation

What this could lead to

If successful, this could provide an effective, culturally tailored way to improve mental health and HIV prevention for transgender and nonbinary people who have experienced trauma.

What could go wrong

This is a small early pilot study (90 people) testing feasibility and preliminary effectiveness. Results may not apply to all TGD populations, and the therapy may not improve PrEP uptake or adherence as hoped.
