Major trial aims to tame transplant bleeding without causing clots

NCT ID NCT07157631

Summary

This large study is testing if a drug called tranexamic acid (TXA) can safely reduce dangerous blood loss during liver transplant surgery. Over 1500 adult patients receiving a transplant will be randomly given either TXA or a placebo (saltwater) during their operation. The main goals are to see if TXA reduces bleeding more than the placebo and, crucially, that it does not cause more blood clots in the week after surgery.
