New device aims to lower eye pressure during cataract surgery
NCT ID NCT06979752
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a device called the Tran cannula, used during cataract surgery to clean away debris from the eye's drainage system in patients with pseudoexfoliative glaucoma. The goal is to see if it lowers eye pressure better than standard irrigation. Fifty-eight adults with both cataract and early-to-moderate glaucoma will be randomly assigned to receive either the Tran cannula or extra irrigation during surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Tran cannula (a single-use irrigation device used during surgery)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a safer, more effective way to lower eye pressure during cataract surgery for people with pseudoexfoliative glaucoma.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 58 participants. The device may not lower eye pressure better than standard irrigation, and surgical risks like infection or inflammation remain.
