New MRI technique could end guesswork for brain tumor patients after radiation

NCT ID NCT04033497

First seen Mar 20, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study tests a special MRI method called Treatment Response Assessment Maps (TRAMs) to tell whether an enlarged spot in the brain after radiation is a returning tumor or harmless scar tissue. About 101 adults with brain metastases who had focused radiation will get this MRI before any surgery. The goal is to see if TRAMs can accurately identify active cancer, which could help doctors choose the right treatment without unnecessary biopsies.
