New study aims to spare thousands of NAFLD patients from painful liver biopsies
NCT ID NCT04681573
First seen Nov 18, 2025 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This study compares two step-by-step strategies that use simple blood tests first, then more advanced scans only if needed, to accurately diagnose advanced liver fibrosis in people with NAFLD. Over 1,000 participants will be enrolled to see which approach works best. The goal is to reduce the need for invasive liver biopsies while still catching those at highest risk.
