Arteries vs veins: which graft keeps hearts beating longer?
NCT ID NCT07057713
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two surgical techniques for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). One uses only arteries (total arterial grafting), while the other uses a mix of artery and vein grafts (conventional mixed grafting). The goal is to see which approach keeps grafts open longer and reduces heart complications. About 400 adults with multivessel coronary artery disease will take part, and their grafts will be checked after 12 months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) using either total arterial grafts (internal thoracic and radial arteries) or mixed grafts (internal thoracic and saphenous vein)
- What this could lead to
- If total arterial grafting proves better, it could lead to longer-lasting bypass grafts and fewer future heart problems for people with coronary artery disease.
- What could go wrong
- This is a single-center trial with 400 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The study only follows patients for 12 months, and long-term benefits are unknown.
