A simple wound rinse might cut Post-Surgery bleeding
NCT ID NCT06270407
First seen Aug 14, 2026 · Last updated Aug 14, 2026
Summary
This trial tests whether applying tranexamic acid (TXA) directly to the wound surface at the end of plastic surgery can reduce complications like re-bleeding, infection, or wound breakdown. About 3,000 adults having plastic surgery will receive either TXA or a saline placebo in a double-blind setup, meaning neither they nor their doctors know which they got. The main goal is to see if TXA lowers the need for interventions to stop bleeding within the first 10 days after surgery, while also checking for any increased risk of blood clots.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- tranexamic acid applied directly to the wound surface
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this simple, low-cost approach could reduce bleeding and wound complications after plastic surgery, improving recovery and safety.
- What could go wrong
- The trial is still testing the idea, and results may not show a clear benefit. There is also a theoretical concern about increased blood clot risk, which the study will monitor.
