Pill for diabetic eye disease? new trial aims to control retinal swelling

NCT ID NCT05727891

Summary

This study is testing whether an oral medication called tonabersat can reduce swelling in the retina (diabetic macular edema) in people who still have good vision. About 128 adults with type 1 or 2 diabetes will take either the drug or a placebo pill for 6 months to see if it thins the swollen retina. The goal is to see if this approach is promising enough to move to a larger, final-stage trial.
