New hope for inoperable bile duct cancer: targeted therapies aim to shrink tumors
NCT ID NCT06313203
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests two treatments for a type of bile duct cancer that cannot be surgically removed. One delivers chemotherapy directly to the liver through a pump, and the other uses tiny radioactive beads injected into the tumor's blood supply. Both are given alongside standard chemotherapy. The goal is to see if these combinations can shrink tumors enough to allow surgery or help patients live longer. About 39 people will take part.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Floxuridine (via hepatic artery infusion) and Yttrium-90 radioactive particles (via selective internal radiation therapy)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could offer a way to shrink inoperable bile duct tumors enough for surgery, potentially improving survival and giving more patients a chance at a cure.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase trial (39 people) without randomization, so results may not apply broadly. Both treatments have risks like liver damage or infection, and the floxuridine arm requires frequent hospital visits.
