NCT ID NCT07636057

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study will compare two drugs, tofacitinib and upadacitinib, added to standard methotrexate treatment for rheumatoid arthritis. One hundred adults in Pakistan will take one of the two drugs daily for six months. Researchers will measure disease activity and side effects to see which drug works better and is safer.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

tofacitinib and upadacitinib (JAK inhibitors) added to methotrexate

What this could lead to

If this trial succeeds, it could show which JAK inhibitor works better for rheumatoid arthritis in the Pakistani population, helping doctors choose the most effective treatment.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 100 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Both drugs have known risks like infections, and the trial hasn't started yet.
