New combo therapy aims to boost brain recovery after severe stroke

NCT ID NCT07509645

First seen Apr 18, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding an anti-inflammatory drug (tocilizumab) to standard emergency stroke treatment helps people recover better after a severe stroke in the back part of the brain. About 348 adults who need emergency vessel-opening treatment will be randomly assigned to receive either the drug or a placebo. The goal is to see if more people achieve functional independence (able to care for themselves) at 90 days.
