Tiny titanium tacks could replace stitches in gum surgery
NCT ID NCT07655349
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This trial compares using tiny titanium tacks versus traditional stitches to hold a gum graft in place after surgery. The goal is to see if the tacks cause less pain and make recovery easier. Adults needing a gum graft around natural teeth will be randomly assigned to one of the two methods and will report their pain levels and healing progress over one week.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
titanium tacks
What this could lead to
If successful, titanium tacks could offer a less painful alternative to sutures for stabilizing gum grafts, improving patient comfort during recovery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 24 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Titanium tacks may not reduce pain as hoped or could cause other issues like discomfort or infection.
