First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study tested whether a non-perforated titanium foil or a collagen membrane works better for guided bone regeneration in people with a thin or flat jawbone ridge. 18 healthy adults received one of the two materials during surgery, and bone height, width, and density were measured after 3 and 6 months. The goal was to find a more reliable way to rebuild bone for future dental implants.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

titanium foil and collagen membrane (devices)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward a more effective method for rebuilding jawbone before dental implants.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study with only 18 participants. Results may not apply to everyone, and the devices are not new drugs—improvements may be modest.
