First seen May 07, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This early-phase study tests whether tirzepatide, a drug used for diabetes and weight loss, changes brain activity related to alcohol cravings. About 176 people (healthy volunteers and those with alcohol use disorder) will receive both tirzepatide and a placebo, then undergo brain scans to measure dopamine levels. The goal is to understand how the drug affects the brain's reward system, not to treat the disorder directly.
