Can a supplement stop the ringing? new trial targets brain inflammation in tinnitus
NCT ID NCT06718452
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether umPEALUT, a supplement that reduces inflammation, can help people with tinnitus. The researchers believe that inflammation in the ear and brain may cause or worsen the phantom sounds. One hundred adults with tinnitus will receive either the supplement or a placebo for a period, and their symptoms will be tracked using questionnaires and hearing tests.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
umPEALUT (palmitoylethanolamide and luteolin) with or without rutin and 5-HTP
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new way to ease tinnitus by targeting inflammation in the brain and ear.
What could go wrong
This is an early, small trial with no phase designation. The supplement is not a proven treatment, and results may not apply to all tinnitus patients.
