Could a patch behind the ear silence tinnitus?
NCT ID NCT07731230
First seen Jul 28, 2026 · Last updated Jul 31, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This trial tests whether a special skin patch worn behind the ear can reduce the ringing or buzzing of tinnitus. About 90 adults with tinnitus will wear either an active patch or a placebo patch daily for three weeks, and researchers will track changes in tinnitus-related distress, sound sensitivity, and mood over a year. All participants also receive educational counseling on managing tinnitus.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- a passive, light-driven biomodulator patch worn behind the ear and replaced daily for three weeks
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this patch could offer a simple, non-invasive option for managing tinnitus without medication or surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with a placebo group, so results may not show a clear benefit. The patch's mechanism is speculative, and any effect may be temporary or no better than placebo.
