Can a stricter setting on an artificial pancreas improve blood sugar control?
NCT ID NCT06466967
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether using a very tight glucose target (80-99 mg/dL) in an advanced hybrid closed-loop insulin pump (CamAPS FX) improves blood sugar control in adults with type 1 diabetes who had poor control. Forty participants who previously used multiple daily injections or other pumps were switched to this system. The main goal was to see if the time spent in the ideal blood sugar range (70-180 mg/dL) increased.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Advanced hybrid closed-loop system (CamAPS FX with Ypsopump) programmed to a tight glucose target (80-99 mg/dL)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a stricter glucose target in an automated insulin pump helps people with type 1 diabetes achieve better blood sugar control and reduce complications.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study (40 people) without long-term follow-up. Results may not apply to everyone, and tighter targets could increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
