Needle instead of knife: new study tests gentler thyroid treatment for LatinX community

NCT ID NCT05903196

Summary

This study is testing a minimally invasive procedure called radiofrequency ablation (RFA) as an alternative to surgery for LatinX adults with bothersome, non-cancerous thyroid nodules. The procedure uses heat from a small needle to shrink nodules that cause symptoms like neck pressure, cosmetic concerns, or hormone issues. Researchers want to see if this approach is safe and effective for LatinX patients, a group not well-studied with this treatment, and if it can help people avoid the risks and recovery of an operation.
