Hug therapy: could cuddling be the new ICU medicine for kids?

NCT ID NCT07562048

First seen May 07, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at whether therapeutic cuddling (like kangaroo care or comfort holding) can reduce pain and delirium in children in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). About 112 kids expected to stay in the PICU for more than 48 hours will be randomly assigned to receive either standard care or standard care plus extra cuddling. The main goal is to see if this approach is practical and acceptable to families and staff.
