New hope for protecting newborn kidneys after birth trauma

Summary

This study is testing if a drug called theophylline can prevent kidney injury in newborns who experience a lack of oxygen to the brain at birth. It will enroll 30 infants who are already receiving standard cooling therapy. The main goal is to see if it's feasible to run a larger future trial to prove the drug works.
