Summary
This study tested adding thalidomide to two other drugs (bortezomib and high-dose melphalan) before a stem cell transplant in 29 people with advanced multiple myeloma who had already failed a prior transplant. The goal was to find the safest dose of thalidomide and see if the combination could improve response rates. While the approach aims to control the disease, patients still require ongoing management and are not considered cured.
