RA treatment showdown: low activity vs. remission

NCT ID NCT06046950

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study compares two treatment strategies for rheumatoid arthritis (RA): aiming for low disease activity versus aiming for remission. 340 adults with RA who are starting or already on disease-modifying drugs will be randomly assigned to one of these targets. The goal is to see which approach leads to better control of joint damage and symptoms over 18 months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Treatment strategy (treat-to-target with DAS28CRP-LDA or SDAI-remission)

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could show which treatment target (low disease activity or remission) is more effective and cost-effective for managing rheumatoid arthritis.

What could go wrong

This is a strategy trial, not testing a new drug. Results may not apply to all patients, and the more stringent remission target may be harder to achieve or cause more side effects.
