Brain seizures after cardiac arrest: can early treatment save lives?

NCT ID NCT06549426

First seen Jul 07, 2026 · Last updated Jul 08, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This trial studies whether giving anti-seizure medication to comatose patients who have brain seizure activity after cardiac arrest can improve their recovery. Participants are randomly assigned to receive either standard care alone or standard care plus a stepwise anti-seizure treatment. The study measures functional recovery and healthcare costs to see if the treatment makes a difference.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
anti-seizure medication and sedative agents
What this could lead to
If effective, this approach could improve functional recovery and quality of life for comatose patients after cardiac arrest.
What could go wrong
This is a mid-stage trial with 150 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Anti-seizure drugs can cause side effects like sedation or low blood pressure.
