Could your phone replace the orthodontist? new trial tests remote monitoring for kids' braces
NCT ID NCT07611227
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial will compare remote monitoring via a smartphone app to standard in-person visits for children aged 7-11 undergoing Phase I orthodontic expansion therapy. The goal is to see if weekly photo check-ins are as effective at improving dental alignment and can reduce emergency visits. The study involves 110 participants and will also measure parental satisfaction and child distress.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Remote monitoring via smartphone application
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that remote monitoring is a safe and effective alternative to frequent in-person visits, reducing travel and stress for families.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial (110 children) comparing two monitoring methods, not testing a new treatment. The technology may not detect all issues, and results may not apply to all orthodontic cases.
