Can a camera replace the slit lamp for Post-Surgery eye checks?

NCT ID NCT06681350

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This trial compares a telemedical device called Occyo One to the standard slit lamp exam for detecting complications after cataract surgery. About 365 patients scheduled for cataract surgery will have their eyes imaged with Occyo One before and after surgery. A remote ophthalmologist then reviews the images to see if they can spot problems as accurately as an in-person exam. The goal is to determine whether telemedicine can reliably replace traditional follow-up visits.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Occyo One telemedical imaging device

What this could lead to

If successful, this could allow remote monitoring of cataract surgery patients, reducing the need for in-person follow-up visits.

What could go wrong

The device may miss complications that a slit lamp would catch, and results from this single-center trial may not apply to all settings.
