Can remote doctors save stroke patients in rural hospitals?
NCT ID NCT07302971
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests whether telemedicine support can improve stroke care in basic-level hospitals with limited resources. About 2,400 patients with acute ischemic stroke will be treated at hospitals that either receive round-the-clock remote guidance from expert stroke teams or do not. The goal is to see if telemedicine leads to better recovery and faster treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
telemedicine-supported management (remote consultation, quality control, and training)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that telemedicine helps smaller hospitals treat stroke more effectively, potentially improving recovery for many patients.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study in China only, so results may not apply elsewhere. The intervention is supportive, not a new drug, so benefits may be modest.
