NCT ID NCT03545906
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tested a program called TEAM-UP that brings asthma specialist visits to children at school via telemedicine, combined with daily preventive medication given at school. 326 children aged 4-12 with moderate to severe asthma took part. The goal was to see if this approach increases symptom-free days compared to enhanced usual care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
telemedicine specialist visits and directly observed therapy (DOT) of asthma medication at school
What this could lead to
If successful, this program could provide a practical way to improve asthma control and reduce symptoms in urban children with difficult-to-manage asthma.
What could go wrong
This is a completed trial, but results may not apply to all children or settings. The intervention relies on school and provider cooperation, which may limit broader use.
