Virtual therapy trial aims to cut deadly drug mix risk
NCT ID NCT05573906
Summary
This study tested if adding online cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) could help people safely reduce their use of benzodiazepine anxiety medications while they were also taking prescription opioids. Taking both drugs together significantly increases the risk of overdose. 42 adults who were prescribed both medications were randomly assigned to receive either the therapy or general health education alongside a gentle 12-week plan to reduce their anxiety medication. Researchers measured changes in medication use and anxiety symptoms to see which approach worked better.
