Can a text message help depressed cancer survivors get the care they need?
NCT ID NCT07091968
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jul 14, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
Depression is common among cancer survivors, but many don't get help. This pilot study tests a text-based referral platform that sends tailored messages and a video to encourage survivors to take up a mental health referral. The study will enroll 60 cancer survivors with depressive symptoms and measure how acceptable and feasible the system is, as well as whether they actually start treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Technology-Enabled Tailored Referral (text-based behavioral intervention)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this approach could provide a simple, scalable way to connect more cancer survivors with depression to mental health care.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small pilot study (60 people) testing feasibility only, not whether the referrals actually improve depression. The results may not apply to all cancer survivors.
