Radiofrequency waves tested as a Drug-Free pain relief for new mothers
NCT ID NCT07730372
First seen Jul 28, 2026 · Last updated Jul 29, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial investigates whether TECAR therapy, a form of radiofrequency energy, can reduce pain and discomfort in women who have perineal tears or episiotomies after vaginal delivery. Around 180 women are randomly assigned to receive the therapy, a sham treatment, or standard care. Pain levels are measured at rest, sitting, and walking over the first two days and again six to eight weeks after birth.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- TECAR therapy (capacitive and resistive energy transfer) using a radiofrequency device
- What this could lead to
- If effective, TECAR therapy could offer a drug-free option to reduce pain and discomfort after childbirth-related perineal trauma.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial. The sham and control groups help test if any benefit is real, but results may not apply broadly. Radiofrequency therapy is generally safe but may cause mild skin irritation.
