Could a boric acid dressing soothe Post-Birth pain and speed healing?
NCT ID NCT07748182
First seen Aug 05, 2026 · Last updated Aug 06, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether applying a 2% boric acid wet dressing to perineal tears or episiotomies after vaginal birth can improve wound healing and reduce pain. About 91 women will be randomly assigned to receive boric acid dressings, saline dressings, or routine perineal care. Healing is measured with the REEDA scale, and pain is tracked with a visual analog scale during daily activities.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- 2% boric acid solution applied as a wet dressing to the perineal area
- What this could lead to
- If effective, boric acid wet dressings could offer a simple, low-cost way to improve perineal healing and reduce pain after childbirth.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small trial, and the benefit over standard care may be modest. Boric acid can irritate skin, and results may not apply to all women.
