Brain zapping at home: new hope for veterans with memory problems
NCT ID NCT07414537
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a non-invasive brain stimulation technique called tDCS, combined with computer-based cognitive training, can improve memory, attention, and multitasking in veterans with mild traumatic brain injury and PTSD. Forty-six veterans will receive either real or fake tDCS for 20 minutes a day over 10 days, while doing brain exercises on a phone app. The goal is to see if this remote, at-home treatment can safely boost cognitive function.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a safe, at-home way to boost thinking skills in veterans with brain injury and PTSD.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 46 participants. The sham control may show no difference, and results may not apply to all veterans.
