New TB triage tests could speed up diagnosis and save lives
NCT ID NCT04666311
First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 29 times
Summary
This study tested two quick triage tests—CAD4TB software that analyzes chest X-rays and a C-reactive protein blood test—to see how accurately they can rule out pulmonary tuberculosis in adults with symptoms like cough or fever. Researchers enrolled 1,400 participants in Lesotho and South Africa to find the best cutoff values for these tests. The goal is to use these tools for faster, cheaper TB screening in high-burden areas, potentially reducing the need for more complex confirmatory tests.
