New scan could reveal hidden lung damage in TB survivors

NCT ID NCT07077213

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study is testing whether a special PET scan tracer called 18F-FAPI-74 can detect scarring (fibrosis) in the lungs of people with active tuberculosis. About 30 adults with confirmed TB will get the tracer and a whole-body PET/CT scan during and after treatment. The goal is to see if this scan can spot fibrosis better than standard imaging, which could help doctors understand and manage long-term lung damage from TB.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

18F-FAPI-74 (a radioactive tracer for PET scans)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a better way to detect and monitor lung scarring in tuberculosis patients, helping doctors assess long-term lung damage.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase study with only 30 participants. The tracer may not clearly show scarring, and results may not apply to all TB patients.
