Heart valve surgery without the surgery team? major trial tests new approach
NCT ID NCT06818006
Summary
This study aims to determine if Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedures for severe aortic stenosis are equally safe and effective when performed at experienced heart centers that don't have cardiac surgery teams physically present in the same building. Currently, TAVR is only done at hospitals with on-site surgery as a safety backup. The trial will compare outcomes for 600 patients randomly assigned to receive TAVR at centers with or without on-site surgery teams.
