Food dye could turn skin transparent, but study never started

NCT ID NCT06800183

First seen Nov 15, 2025 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study was designed to test if tartrazine, a common yellow food dye, could be rubbed on the skin to make it temporarily transparent. Researchers planned to apply different doses to healthy volunteers and take pictures to see if they could better see blood vessels and other structures under the skin. However, the study was withdrawn before any participants were enrolled, so no results are available.
