Experimental drug tarlatamab takes on rare, Tough-to-Treat cancer

NCT ID NCT06893783

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This phase 2 trial is testing a drug called tarlatamab in 60 adults with advanced extrapulmonary neuroendocrine carcinoma, a rare cancer that has come back after standard chemotherapy. Tarlatamab works by helping the body's immune cells find and attack cancer cells. The main goal is to see if the drug can shrink tumors, with secondary goals of slowing disease progression and improving survival. There is no placebo group.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

tarlatamab (a drug that helps immune cells attack cancer cells)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a new treatment option for people with advanced neuroendocrine carcinoma that has stopped responding to standard chemotherapy.

What could go wrong

This is an early-phase trial with only 60 participants and no comparison group. The drug may not shrink tumors or improve survival, and side effects could be significant.
