Hospitals test new strategy to fight superbugs by cutting unnecessary antibiotics
NCT ID NCT05568654
Summary
This large study aims to reduce the overuse of powerful, broad-spectrum antibiotics in adults hospitalized with pneumonia. It will test two main strategies across many hospitals: using faster diagnostic tests to identify the cause of infection, and having pharmacists review cases to recommend stepping down antibiotic strength when safe. The goal is to give patients the right treatment while minimizing side effects and the risk of creating antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
