New psoriasis cream takes on old standby in Head-to-Head trial

NCT ID NCT07635043

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study will test whether a newer cream called tapinarof works better than the standard betamethasone cream for mild-to-moderate plaque psoriasis. About 120 adults will use one of the two creams daily for up to 12 weeks. The main goal is to see how many people get at least a 75% improvement in their psoriasis symptoms.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
tapinarof cream 1% and betamethasone dipropionate 0.05% cream
What this could lead to
If tapinarof works as well or better than betamethasone, it could offer a new topical treatment option for mild-to-moderate plaque psoriasis.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial (120 people) that hasn't started yet. Results may not apply to everyone, and tapinarof might not prove superior or could have side effects.
