Blood test may help some ANCA patients skip maintenance drugs

NCT ID NCT03906227

First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study looked at whether measuring a specific type of immune cell (CD5+ regulatory B cells) in the blood could help doctors decide if ANCA vasculitis patients need ongoing treatment to prevent relapses. The idea was that patients with normal levels of these cells after initial therapy might be able to safely stop maintenance drugs. The study was terminated early with only 9 participants, so the approach remains unproven.
