Tai chi via zoom tested as depression remedy for older HIV patients
NCT ID NCT06586619
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether doing tai chi/qigong over Zoom twice a week for 12 weeks can reduce depressive symptoms in people aged 50-75 living with HIV. About 326 participants will be randomly assigned to either tai chi or a health education class. Researchers will track mood, heart rate, and blood markers to see if the gentle movement practice helps more than education alone.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
tai chi/qigong
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a safe, accessible way to ease depression in older adults living with HIV without medication.
What could go wrong
This is a behavioral study, not a drug trial, so effects may be modest. Results depend on participants sticking with the classes, and benefits may not last long-term.
