Major trial tests cutting radiation for breast cancer – could spare thousands from side effects
NCT ID NCT05634889
First seen Jun 02, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study is for women with early-stage breast cancer that has spread to 1-2 lymph nodes. It tests whether skipping radiation to the lymph nodes can reduce side effects and improve quality of life without increasing the risk of cancer coming back. About 1,350 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either standard radiation or a reduced plan that avoids lymph node treatment. The goal is to see if the gentler approach is just as effective at preventing recurrence over five years.
