New hope for Tough-to-Treat colorectal cancer: experimental combo enters Late-Stage trial

NCT ID NCT07361003

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This phase 3 trial is testing whether adding the experimental drug suvemcitug to standard chemotherapy (trifluridine/tipiracil) helps people with metastatic colorectal cancer that no longer responds to other treatments live longer. About 464 participants will receive either the combination or a placebo plus chemo. The study first checks safety, then measures overall survival.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

suvemcitug (an anti-VEGF drug) plus trifluridine/tipiracil chemotherapy tablets

What this could lead to

If it works, this combination could offer a new treatment option that helps people with advanced colorectal cancer live longer after other treatments have failed.

What could go wrong

This is still being tested, and the added benefit of suvemcitug is unproven. Side effects from the combination could be worse than chemo alone, and the trial may not show a survival improvement.
