Major gut dilemma: cut or medicate? trial seeks answer for thousands

NCT ID NCT04095663

Summary

This study compares two approaches for people whose diverticulitis significantly affects their quality of life. Researchers are testing whether elective colon surgery works better than optimized medication management at improving patients' symptoms and daily life. The trial involves 255 adults who have recovered from a diverticulitis episode but still experience lingering problems. Participants are randomly assigned to receive either surgery or a comprehensive medical treatment plan.
