Can surgery boost Radiation's punch against gut and pancreatic tumors?
NCT ID NCT06016855
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether removing as much tumor as possible through surgery before giving a targeted radioactive drug (Lutetium Lu 177 dotatate) works better for people with slow-growing neuroendocrine tumors that have spread to the liver. Six adults with grade 1 or 2 tumors will receive standard surgery followed by the radioactive treatment. The goal is to see if this combination improves tumor shrinkage and delays cancer growth.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Lutetium Lu 177 dotatate (a radioactive drug that targets tumor cells)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that combining surgery with targeted radiation is a more effective way to control advanced neuroendocrine tumors that have spread to the liver.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early-phase trial with only 6 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The surgery and radiation both carry risks like infection, bleeding, or kidney damage.
