New prostate surgery aims to protect penile implants
NCT ID NCT07327424
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new surgical technique for treating enlarged prostate in men who also have a penile implant. The standard approach through the urethra can damage the implant, so surgeons are trying an alternative route through the lower belly. The study will enroll 80 men and measure how well the procedure relieves urinary symptoms and its safety.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Suprapubic transvesical endoscopic prostatectomy (surgical procedure)
What this could lead to
If successful, this technique could offer a safer surgical option for men with enlarged prostate who have penile implants, reducing the risk of implant damage.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early feasibility study with no comparison group. The procedure is new and may carry risks like bleeding, infection, or failure to relieve symptoms. Results may not apply to all patients.
