Could a Jaw-Movement tracker replace sleep apnea tests?

NCT ID NCT07269483

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests a wearable device called Sunrise that tracks small jaw movements during sleep to diagnose obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). About 100 adults referred to a sleep clinic will use Sunrise alongside standard tests like oximetry or WatchPAT. Researchers want to see if Sunrise leads to faster, clearer decisions about treatment or discharge compared to current methods.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Sunrise device (submandibular wearable for overnight sleep studies)

What this could lead to

If successful, Sunrise could offer a simpler, more accurate way to diagnose sleep apnea, reducing the need for multiple tests and speeding up treatment decisions.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study (100 participants) comparing a new device to existing tools. The Sunrise results are not used for actual patient care here, so real-world benefits are still unproven.
