Can text messages and facebook groups prevent skin cancer in teens?
NCT ID NCT07681791
First seen Jul 02, 2026 · Last updated Jul 02, 2026
Summary
This pilot study tests a digital program called Sun Safe Together (SST) designed to improve sun safety habits in teenagers and their parents. Teens receive text messages about sun protection for 12 weeks, while parents join a private Facebook group with related content. The study aims to see if this approach is practical and well-liked by families, and whether it can encourage behaviors that lower skin cancer risk.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Sun Safe Together (SST) digital intervention: text messages for teens and a private Facebook group for parents
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could offer a scalable, low-cost way to encourage sun-safe habits and reduce skin cancer risk in families.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study focused on feasibility, not on proving that the intervention actually prevents skin cancer. Results may not apply to all families.
