First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests a brief problem-solving therapy to prevent suicide in adults aged 50 and older who have suicidal thoughts. The therapy is delivered in three formats: face-to-face, by phone, or via a smartphone app. 212 participants will be randomly assigned to one of these formats or to usual care, and followed for 12 months to see if suicidal thoughts decrease.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide an accessible, brief therapy option to reduce suicide risk in older adults.
