Suicide helpline tries callbacks to keep people safe
NCT ID NCT07343258
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether calling people back after they contact a suicide helpline helps them feel supported and connected to care. Researchers will interview callers and helpline staff to see if the callback system works well and is helpful. The goal is to improve how the helpline supports people in crisis.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
callback calls from the suicide helpline
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that follow-up calls after a crisis helpline conversation help people feel supported and reduce suicide risk.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study with only 98 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It focuses on feasibility, not on proving that callbacks prevent suicide.
